חֵן with suff. חִנִּי m. (from the root חָנַן).
(1) grace, favour, good-will.
(a) פְלֹנִי מָצָא חֵן בְּעֵינֵי to find favour in the eyes of some one, to be acceptable to him, Genesis 6:8, 19:19 32:6 33:8, אִם־נָא מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ “if now thou art favourable to me,” Genesis 30:27, 47:29 50:4. In the same sense נָשָׂא חֵן וגו׳ Esther 2:15, 17.
(b) נָתַן חֵן פּ׳ בְּעֵינֵי to give some one favour with somebody. Exodus 3:21, וְנָתַתִּי אֶת־חֵן הָעָם הַזֶּה בְּעֵינֵי מִצְרַיִם “and I will give this people favour with the Egyptians.” Exodus 11:3, 12:36 Genesis 39:21; Ecclesiastes 9:11.
(2) grace, i.q. gracefulness, beauty, Proverbs 22:11, 31:30. Proverbs 5:19, יַעֲלַת חֵן “the beautiful wild roe.” Psalms 45:3 [?]; Ecclesiastes 10:12. אֶבֶן חֵן “a beautiful (i.e. a precious) stone,” Proverbs 17:8.
(3) supplication, prayer, Zechariah 12:10. See the verb in Hithpael.
