(1) a seal, a seal-ring (from the root חָתַם), Exodus 28:11, 21 Exodus 28:21; Job 38:14, 41:7 Jeremiah 22:24, etc. The Hebrews were accustomed, like the Persians in the present day, sometimes to carry a signet ring hung by a string upon the breast (Genesis 38:18), to which custom allusion is made, Song of Solomon 8:6. Arab. خَاَتِمُ and خَاتِمُ.
