Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition
חָגָב m.
(1) a locust, winged and edible (Leviticus 11:22), said to be so called because it covers the ground, Numbers 13:33; Isaiah 40:22; Ecclesiastes 12:5. [“Another etymology is proposed by Credner, on Joel page 309. The Samar. in Lev. loc. cit. has חרגבה which may signify a leaper, compare Arab. حرجل; and from חרגב then might come the triliteral חָגָב; comp. حرجل, חָגַל.”]
(2) [Hagab], pr.n. m., Ezra 2:46.
