 I. זִמְרִי proper name, masculineᵐ5 Ζαμβρ(ε)ι

1 a Simeonite Numbers 25:14 (P).

2 grandson of Judah 2 Chronicles 2:6 (app. = זַבְדִּי Joshua 7:1q. v.)

3 king of Israel before Omri 1 Kings 16:9,10,12,15,16,18,20; 2 Kings 9:31.

4 a Benjamite 1 Chronicles 8:36 (twice in verse) = 1 Chronicles 9:42 (twice in verse).

II. זִמְרִי proper name, of a people or

patr., only ׳מַלְכֵי ז Jeremiah 25:25 (+ מלכי עֵילָם and מלכי מָדָ֑י); = Σεμβρῖται in Ethiopia (Strabo xvii, i. 786) ? compare Gf; omitted by ᵐ5; interpolation according to Kue Gie.

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

זִמְרִי masc. (“celebrated in song,” ἀοίδιμος, “celebrated”), [Zimri], pr.n.

(1) of a king of Israel, who slew Elah and succeeded him, B. C. 930. 1 Kings 16:9, 10 1 Kings 16:10; 2 Kings 9:31. Gr. Ζαμβρί.

(2) of the captain of the Simeonites, 25:14.

(3)  1 Chronicles 2:6.

(4)  1 Chronicles 8:36, 9:42.

(5) it seems also to be a patronymic from זִמְרָן for זִמְרָנִי. Jeremiah 25:25.

זִמְרָן (id.), [Zimran], pr.n. of a son of Abraham, and Keturah, and of an Arabian nation sprung from him, Genesis 25:2; 1 Chronicles 1:32. Perhaps Zabram, a regal city according to Ptolemy between Mecca and Medinah is to be compared with this. Compare זִמְרִי No. 5.
