גֶּזֶר (1) a piece, a part, pl. גְּזָרִים parts of victims, Genesis 15:17 the parts of the divided sea, Psalms 136:13.
(2) Gezer [Gazer], (prob. “place cut off,” “precipice”), pr.n. of a city, formerly a royal city of the Canaanites (Joshua 10:33, 12:12 ); situated in the western border of the tribe of Ephraim (Joshua 16:3); allotted to the Levites (Joshua 21:21); although the ancient inhabitants were not expelled (Joshua 16:10; Judges 1:29 ). Laid waste by the Egyptians, but restored by Solomon (-1 Ki. 9:1517 ).
