feed by putting little bits into the mouth, as nurses do to children, Ar. Th. 692, Lys. 19, Hp. Morb. 4.54; or sick people, Id. Epid. 7.3; ψ. τινά τι LXX l. c.: Pass., ἐπίσταμαι γὰρ.., οἷς ψωμίζεται with what tit-bits he is fed, Ar. Eq. 715.

II give food by hand, σῖτον οὐδ' ἐάν τις ψωμίζῃ δύνανται καταπιεῖν Arist. HA 592a30; bestow for food, ψ. πάντα τὰ ὑπάρχοντα 1 Corinthians 13:3.

ψωμίζω; 1 aorist ἐψώμισά; (ψωμός, a bit, a morsel; see ψσομιον);

a. to feed by putting a bit or crumb (of food) into the mouth (of infants, the young of animals, etc.): τινα τίνι (Aristophanes, Aristotle, Plutarch, Geoponica, Artemidorus Daldianus, oneir. 5, 62; Porphyry, Jamblichus).

b. universally, to feed, nourish (the Sept. for הֶאֱכִיל) (Winer's Grammar, § 2, 1 b.): τινα, Romans 12:20; Clement of Rome, 1 Cor. 55, 2 [ET]; with the accusative of the thing, to give a thing to feed someone, feed out to (Vulg. distribuo in cibos pauperun (A. V. bestow ... to feed the poor)): 1 Corinthians 13:3; in the O. T. τινα τί, Sir. 15:3; Wis. 16:20; Numbers 11:4; Deuteronomy 32:13; Psalm 79:6 (); Isaiah 58:14, etc.; cf. to feed with morsels (as children or the sick; Hippocr.), hence, generally, in late writers, to feed, nourish: c. acc pers., Romans 12:20 (LXX); c. acc rei, to give out for food, 1 Corinthians 13:3 (cf. WM, § 32, 4an; for dupl. acc, cf. Numbers 11:4, Sirach 15:3, al.).†
