ταμεῖον (so T WH uniformly), more correctly ταμιεῖον (R G L Tr in Matthew 6:6) (cf. Lob. ad Phryn., p. 493; Winers Grammar, 94 (90); (Tdf. Proleg., p. 88f)), ταμειου, τό (ταμιεύω), from Thucydides and Xenophon down;

1. a storechamber, storeroom: Luke 12:24 (Deuteronomy 28:8; Proverbs 3:10 (Philo, quod omn. prob. book § 12)).

2. a chamber, especially 'an inner chamber'; a secret room: Matthew 6:6; Matthew 24:26; Luke 12:3 (Xenophon, Hell. 5, 4, 5; Sir. 29:12; Tobit 7:15, and often in the Sept. for חֶדֶר).

";a wall,"; is used figuratively in Acts 23:3, its only occurrence in the NT (cf. τεῖχος). For its ordinary meaning, cf. P Magd 2 recto.3 ff. (B.C. 221) (= Chrest. I. p. 134) ὑπάρχοντος δὲ τοίχου τινὸς ἡμιτελέστου. . . ἐμοῦ δὲ βουλομένης ἐπισυντελέσαι τὸν τοῖχον ἵνα μὴ ὑπερβατὸν ἦι εἰς τὰ ἡμέτερα, ib. 29.3 (B.C. 218) ἐπιβὰς ὁ Θεοδόσιος ὠικοδόμησεν ἑαυτῶι τοίχους οἰκήσεω [ς, P Amh II. 54.3 (B.C. 112) οἶκος καθει ̣ρη ̣μένος ἧς οἱ τῦχοι περίεισιν, ";a dismantled house, of which the walls are standing"; (Edd.), P Oxy III. 505.8 (ii/A.D.) οἱ λοιποὶ τῆς αὐτῆς αὐλῆς τοῖχοι, P Lond 46.72 (magic—iv/A.D.) (= I. p. 67) of writing εἰς τοῖχο (ν), Inscr. Délos 365–53 (iii/B.C.) ἐργολαβήσαντι ἀνοικοδομῆσαι πτῶμ [α ] τοῦ τοίχου, and Herodas VI. 8 οὐ φέρουσιν οἱ τοῖχοι.

The word is used of the ";side"; of a ship in P Hib I. 38.8 (B.C. 252–1) συνέβη κλεῖναι τὸν δεξιὸν τοῖχον τοῦ πλοίου, ";it came about that the right side of the ship listed"; (Edd.) : cf. P Flor I. 69.21, .25 (iii/A.D.).
