στρατοπεδάρχης, στρατοπεδαρχου, ὁ (στρατόπεδον and ἄρχω) (cf. Buttmann, 73 (64));
a. the commander of a camp and army, a military tribune: Dionysius Halicarnassus 10, 36; Lucian, hist. conscr. 22; (Josephus, b. j. 2, 19, 4).
b. Praetorian prefect, commander of the praetorian cohorts, i. e. captain of the Roman emperor's bodyguard: Acts 28:16 (L T Tr WH omit the clause, see Abbot in B. D., American edition, under the word, Captain of the Guard). There were two praetorian prefects, to whose custody prisoners sent bound to the emperor were consigned: Josephus, Antiquities 18, 6, 6; Pliny, epistles 10, 65 (57). (See B. D. American edition as above; Lightfoot on Philippi, p. 7f.)
STRONGS NT 4759a: στρατοπεδαρχος [στρατοπεδαρχος, στρατοπεδαρχου, ὁ: see the preceding word. The dative στρατοπεδάρχῳ is the reading of some manuscripts (cf. WH rejected marginal reading) in Acts 28:16; cf. ἑκατοντάρχης, at the beginning

P Flor I. 489 (A.D. 222) συ ]μ ̣φώνου γράμματος, i.e. a contract agreeing with another contract already drawn up, P Gen I. 7618 (iii/iv A.D.) οὐ σοινέθετο (l. συνέθετο) σύνφωνα, and P Oxy VI. 9149 (A.D. 486) κατὰ τὰ μεταξὺ [σύμφ ]ω ̣να, ";according to the agreement between us."; Cf. Syll 653 (= 3 736)100 (B.C. 92) σταθμοῖς καὶ μέτροις συμφώνοις ποτὶ τὰ δαμόσια. For the phrase ἐκ συμφώνου, ";by agreement,"; as in 1 Corinthians 7:5, cf. P Par 63.152 (B.C. 164), CPR I. 1114 (A.D. 108), P Ryl II. 16216 (A.D. 159) καθὼς ἐκξυ <μ >φώνου ὑπηγόρευσαν, ";as stated by mutual consent"; (Edd.), and P Oxy XII. 147328 (A.D. 201). The corr. adv. συμφώνως occurs in P Oxy VII. 103214 (A.D. 162).
