Vocabulary of the Greek NT

For his verb in the act. = ";see beforehand,"; cf. BGU II. 372ii. 9 (A.D. 154) (= Chrest. I. p. 33) προορῶντας καὶ προαπαντῶντας, and Vett. Val. p. 83.4 ἑκάστου οὖν ἀστέρος δεῖ τὰς φύσεις προορᾶν.

The mid. in the sense of ";pay regard to,"; as in Acts 2:25 LXX, may be illustrated by P Par 26i. 22 (B.C. 163–2) (= Selections, p. 15) οὐδεμίαν εὐλάβειαν προορωμένων, ";paying no regard to religious scruple,"; P Flor I. 99.9 (i/ii A.D.) (= Selections, p. 72) οὗ χάριν προορώμεθα μήποτε ἐ [π ]ηρεάσηι ἡμεῖν, ";wherefore we are paying heed lest he should deal despitefully with us,"; P Fay 22.20 (Imperial edict—iii/iv A.D.) προορᾶσθαι τῶν ἐθνῶν οἷς ἐφεστήκασι, ";to pay regard to the interests of the people over whom they are placed,"; and Syll.3 569.13 (B.C. 204–1) προορώμενος τάν τε τῶν ἐναντίων ἐπιβολάν. For the subst. πρόοψις see ib. 880.15 (A.D. 202) τῇ προόψει τῶν σταθμῶν ἡσθέ [ν ]τες. An ex. of προεῖδον is given s.v.
