The adverb οἰκτρῶς occurs in the interesting school exercise, P Fay 19.8 (ii/A.D.), purporting to be the copy of a letter addressed by the Emperor Hadrian to Antoninus regarding his approaching death which, he declares, was neither untimely nor unreasonable nor lamentable nor unexpected—ο ]ὔτε ἀω ̣[ρεὶ οὔτ ]ε ἀλόγως οὔτε οἰκτρῶς οὔτε α ̣̓π ̣[ροσ ]δοκήτω [ς. σ ]ῆς δ᾽ ἀρετῆς καὶ σωϕ ̣ροσύνης μνημεῖον ἅπασιν
λείπ ]εις οἰ [κτ ]ρὰ παθὼν μοίρας ὕπ [ο ] δαίμονος ἐχθροῦ.
