οἰκοδομέω in the literal sense of ";build"; is seen in such passages as—P Magd 27.4 (B.C. 218) θεμέλιον σκάπτων ὥστε οἰκοδομεῖν, P Ryl II. 248.2 (B.C. 162) τῆς ἐν αὐτῆι οἰκίας ὠικοδομημένης, P Grenf II. 35.6 (B.C. 98) παστοφόριον (cf. Jeremiah 42:4 al.) ᾠκοδομημένον καὶ δεδοκωμένην, ";a priest’s chamber built and furnished with beams,"; P Ryl II. 133.13 (A.D. 33) ἔμβλημ (α) οἰκοδομημένον μετὰ δαπάνης οὐκ ὀλίγων κεφαλαίων ἀργυρικῶν, ";a dam (?) built at the expense of no small sums of money"; (Edd.), and the interesting P Giss I. 20.19 (beg. ii/A.D.) (= Chrest. I. p. 124) with its reference to a private shrine, built in honour of the Dioscuri—ᾠκοδόμηται αὐτῶν ὁ τόπος. See also Logion 7 ( = P Oxy I. 1.15–.20) λέγει Ἰησοῦς, πόλις ᾠκοδομημένη ἐπ᾽ ἄκρον [ὄ ]ρους ὑψηλοῦ καὶ ἐστηριγμένη οὔτε πε [σ ]εῖν δύναται οὔτε κρυ [β ]ῆναι.
