eye, face, countenance, Hom. and Hes., only in acc. sing.; εἰς ὦπα ἰδέσθαι τινί to look one in the face, Il. 9.373; ἐπὴν ἔλθητε Διός τ' εἰς ὦπα ἴδησθε 15.147: abs., δεινὸς εἰς ὦπα ἰδέσθαι Od. 22.405, cf. 23.107; θεῇς εἰς ὦπα ἔοικεν in face she is like the goddesses, Il. 3.158; οὐ μὲν γάρ τι κακῷ εἰς ὦπα ἐῴκει Od. 1.411; θεῇς εἰς ὦπα ἐΐσκειν Hes. Op. 62. — masc. acc. pl., μεγάλους ὦπας Ar. Byz. ap. Ath. 7.287b, cf. Ath. 9.367a, Gal. 12.804, Eust. l. c.; διγλήνους ὦπας Theoc. Ephesians 6:2, cf. EM 233.32: but τὰ ὦπα Pl. μέτωπον, μετώπου, τό (μετά, ὤψ 'eye'), from Homer down; the Sept. for מֵצַח (literally, the space between the eyes) the forehead: Revelation 7:3; Revelation 9:4; Revelation 13:16; Revelation 14:1, 9; Revelation 17:5; Revelation 20:4; Revelation 22:4.
