μεσότοιχον, μεσοτοιχου, τό (μέσος, and τοῖχος the wall of a house), a partition-wall: τό μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ (i. e. τόν φραγμόν τόν μεσότοιχον ὄντα (A. V. the middle wall of partition; Winer's Grammar, § 59, 8 a.)), Ephesians 2:14. (Only once besides, and that too in the masculine: τόν τῆς ἡονης καί ἀρετῆς μεσότοιχον, Eratosthenes quoted in Athen. 7, p. 281 d.)

Vocabulary of the Greek NT

For μνήμην ποιεῖσθαι in its ordinary sense of ";make mention"; (as perhaps also in 2 Peter 1:15 : see Mayor ad l.), we may cite the letter attributed to the dying Hadrian, P Fay 19.10, in which the Emperor announces his intention of making a simple and accurate statement of certain facts—αὐτῶν τῶν πραγμάτων ἁπλῆν [. . . . . ἀκριβ ]εστάτην μνήμην ποιούμενος. Exx. of the subst. = ";memory,"; ";remembrance,"; are Chrest. I. 26.30 (A.D. 156) ἐπιστολὴ τοῦ κρατίστης μνήμης Μαμερτείνου, P Ryl II. 233.12 (ii/A.D.) ἔχων ῢ ̣̣πογύως ἐν μνήμηι τὰς τιμὰς ὧν ἀγοράζει ἐξαρτισμῶν, ";having fresh in his mind the prices of the fittings which he buys"; (Edd.), P Oxy II. 237vi. 30 (A.D. 186) σὺ ὁ κύριος τῇ θεογνώστῳ σου μνήμῃ καὶ τῇ ἀπλανήτῳ προαιρέσει ἀνενεγκὼν τὴ [ν γραφεῖσ ]άν σοι ὑπὸ τοῦ στρατηγοῦ ἐπιστολήν, ";your lordship exercising your divine memory and unerring judgement took into consideration the letter written to you by the strategus"; (Edd.), ib. IX. 1219.10 (iii/A.D.) διὰ τὴν μνήμην τ [ο ]ῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ, ib. X. 1320 (A.D. 497) Ἐπιφανίῳ [υἱῷ τοῦ τῆς ] μακαρίας μνήμης Ἰωσήφ, and Syll 740 (= .31112).6 (before A.D. 212) ὁ μνήμης ἀρίστης Ἰούλιος Ἀριστέας. For the adj. μνημονικός cf. BGU IV. 1132.7 (B.C. 13) κατὰ μνημονικὴν συγγραφήν, and for in μνήμων in the phrase ἀγορανόμωι. . . μνήμονι cf. P Ryl II. 118.13 (B.C. 16–15) witn the editors’ note.
