μέλι has a place in all phases of Greek from Homer to MGr : cf. from the Κοινή —P Oxy II. 234iii. 10 (a medical prescription—ii/iiiA.D.) πρόσμιξον μέλι καὶ ῥόδινον, ";add honey and rose-extract,"; ib. VI. 936.9 (iii/A.D.) ἡμίχουν μέλιτος, ";half a chous of honey."; This last papyrus shows also .10 μελικηρίδα, ";honey comb,"; and .11 μελίτινα ̣ στεφάνια γ ̄, which the editors render ";3 honey–sweet garlands"; : cf. the otherwise unknown adj. μελίσσιος as interpolaled in the TR of Luke 24:42. For acc. μέλιν see P Iand 18.1 (vi/vii A.D.) and for μελίτιν see Kaibel 719.9 γλυκὺν ὡς μελίτιν.
