2. in the later writings ((Philo), Josephus, Plutarch, Appian, Herodian, Artemidorus Daldianus) equivalent to τήθη, grandmother (see Lob. ad Phryn., pp. 133-135 (cf. Winer's Grammar, 25)): 2 Timothy 1:5; 4 Macc. 16:9.

(= Selections, p. 5) εὖ δὲ ποιε [ ]ς καὶ σὺ ε [ἰ ὑ ]γιαίνεις καὶ ἡ μ [ ]μμη [σ ]ου, ";it is well if you also and your grandmother are in good health,"; P Oxy XIV. 1644.12 (B.C. 63–62) Μοσχίωνος κατὰ μητέρα μάμμηι Ἀρσινόηι, ";Arsinoe maternal grandmother of Moschion,"; ib.
