bless, deem or pronounce happy, congratulate, τινα Od. 15.538, Pi. N. 11.11, Hdt. 7.45, S. OT 1196 (lyr.), Antipho 2.4.4, E. Ba. 911 (lyr.), etc.; τινά τινος for a thing, Ar. V. 429, Lys. 2.81, Phld. Rh. 1.194 S.; τινὰ ἐπί τινι Id. D. 1.15; also μ. τὴν ῥώμην τινός, = μ. τινὰ τῆς ῥώμης, Hdt. 1.31; ironically, μακαρίσαντες ὑμῶν τὸ ἀπειρόκακον blessing your happy ignorance, Th. 5.105: with neut. Pron., τουτὶ.. σε μόνον (cj.).. μακαρίζω Ar. V. 588: — Pass., Th. 2.51, D.L. 6.45: c. dat. modi, σωφροσύνῃ καὶ ὁσιότητι μακαρισθείς X. Cyn. 1.11.
