advantage, profit, Thphr. ap. D.L. 5.54, D.S. 1.36, LXX 2 Maccabees 2:27, J. AJ 16.9.1; λ. περὶ τὸν χρόνον economy in respect of time, i.e. by postponement of payments until they fell due, Plb. 31.27.11; διὰ λυσιτέλειαν for the sake of economy, Dsc. 5.8. — Rejected by the Atticists, Poll. 5.136, Moer. p.248 P., Phot.
λυσιτελέω, λυσιτέλω; (from λυσιτελής, and this from λύω to pay, and τά τέλη (cf. τέλος, 2)); (from Herodotus down); properly, to pay the taxes; to return expenses, hence, to be useful, advantageous; impersonally, λυσιτελεῖ, it profits; followed by ἤ (see ἤ, 3 f.), it is better: τίνι; followed by εἰ, Luke 17:2.

For the impersonal λυσιτελεῖ, as in Luke 17:2 (cf. Tobit 3:6), cf. P Hamb I. 27.17 (B.C. 250) ὥστε λυσιτελεῖ μισθώσασθαι ἢ χορτάσματα ζητεῖν.
The adj. is common—P Petr II. 13(6).7 (B.C. 258–3) ὅτι εἴη λυσιτελὴς ἡ ἐργολαβία (contract for work), ib.
