Vocabulary of the Greek NT

κυρόω, ";ratify,"; ";confirm,"; as in Galatians 3:15, is common in legal documents, as when with reference to the sale of property the purchaser undertakes if the sale is confirmed to pay a certain sum into the government bank — P Amh II. 97.14 (A.D. 180–192) ἐφ᾽ ᾧ κυρωθεῖσα διαγράψω ἐπὶ τὴν δ [ημ ]οσίαν τράπεζαν, adding that he will remain in undisturbed possession and ownership for ever—.17 ἐὰ ]ν φαίν [η ]ται κυρῶσαι, ";if you consent to confirm the sale";; but that if he is not so confirmed, he will not be bound by his promise—.17 ἐὰν δὲ μὴ κυρωθῶ οὐ κατασχε [θ ]ήσομαι τῇ [ ]ποσχέσει : cf. P Tebt II. 294.16 (A.D. 146) ἃς κ [αὶ ] διαγράψω κυρωθεὶς ἐπὶ τὴν ἐπὶ τόπων δημοσίαν τράπεζαν ταῖς συνήθεσι προθεσμίαις, ";which sum I will, as soon as my appointment is ratified, pay into the local public bank at the accustomed dates"; (Edd.), Michel 478.6 (ii/B.C.) δεδόχθαι οὖν τῶ [ι κοι ]νῶι, κυρωθέντος τοῦδε τοῦ ψηφίσμ [ατο ]ς, and the interesting Commagene rescript OGIS 383.122 (mid. i/B.C.) For κύρωσις cf. ib. 455.17 (i/B.C.) κατ᾽ οὖσαν μετὰ ταῦτα ἐν ἑαυτοῖς κύρωσιν, P Tebt II. 297.16 (c.
