Eq. 1101; κριθᾶν μέδιμμνον IG 42(1).40.7 (Epid.); τὰς οὐλοχύτας φέρε δεῦρο — τοῦτο δ' ἐστὶ τί; — κριθαί Strato Com. 1.35; οἶνος ἐκ κριθέων πεποιημένος a kind of beer, Hdt. 2.77; ἐκ κριθῶν μέθυ A. For this common word, which in the NT is found only once and in the plur. (Revelation 6:6), it is sufficient to cite P Hib I. 47.22 (B.C. 256) καὶ ὄλυραν δὲ κ [αὶ κρ ]ιθὴν ἑτοίμαζε, ";prepare both olyra and barley,"; P Petr II. 23(I).2 (Ptol.) ἡ ζεὴ (= ζειὰ) ἡ δὲ κριθὴ ἐπλήγη, ";the rye and the barley had been smitten"; with hail (?) (Ed.), P Giss I. 69.7 (A.D. 118–9) νῦν δὲ πρὸς παράλημψιν κρειθῆς ἔπεμψα αὐτόν, P Oxy I. 69.6 (A.D. 190) κριθῆς ἀρτάβας δέκα.
