P Hib I. 27.83 (a calendar—B.C. 301–240) ἔλεγεν δὲ [δύο ] τ ̣ὰς πορείας εἶναι τοῦ ἡλίου μία μὲν τὴν διορίζουσαν νύκτα καὶ ἡμέραν μία δὲ τὴν διορίζουσαν χιμῶνα καὶ θέρος, ";he said that the courses of the sun were two, one dividing night and day and one dividing winter and summer"; (Edd.). OGIS 56.41 (B.C. 237) ἐν τῶι χειμῶνι. . . ἐν τῶι θέρει. In P Flor II. 150.5 (A.D. 267) ὥστε. . πατῆσαι τὰ ἐν τῷ αἰγιαλῷ θέρη, the word is = ";crop."; For the adj. see BGU IV. 1188.9 (B.C. 15–4) τὰ θερινὰ ἔργα, and P Oxy IV. 810 (A.D. 134–5) where land is to be cultivated χόρτῳ εἰς κοπὴν καὶ θερινὴν ἐπινομήν. Θέριστρον apparently = ";a summer garment"; (as in LXX Genesis 24:65 al.) occurs in P Petr I. 12.18 (iii/B.C.) (=III. p. 18). MGr θέρος, ";summer.";
