The Pauline phrase in 1 Timothy 2:2 finds a striking parallel in OG1S 519.10 (c. A.D. 245) ἤρεμον καὶ γαληνὸν τὸν βίον δια [γόντων. Lest Paul should be credited with a literary word we may cite the use of the verb in BGU IV. 1019.2 (mid. ii/A.D.) σω ]ϕ ̣ρο ̣σ ̣υ ̣ν ̣ῃ [ἱ ]κ [α ]νὸν χρόν ̣ο ̣[ν ] ᾐρ ̣εμη ̣σ ̣α ̣ς ̤ μετῆλθεν.
