Vocabulary of the Greek NT

P Oxy VII. 1061.21 (B.C. 22) σὺ δὲ γράφε ὑπὲρ ὧν ἐὰν θέλῃς καὶ ἥδιστα ποιήσωι, P Lond 897.8 (A.D. 84) (= III. p. 207) ἥδιστα πάντας καταλείψωι εἵνα μὴ τὴν πρός σε φιλείαν καταλείψωι, P Oxy VI. 933.5 (late ii/A.D.) ἥδιστά σε ἀσπάζομ [αι. For a good ex. of the elative ἥδιστα see the Bezan addition in Acts 13:6 ἐπειδὴ ἥδιστα ἤκουεν αὐτῶν : cf. 2 Corinthians 12:9; 2 Corinthians 12:15.

The adj. is found in a medical prescription of ii/iii A.D., P Oxy II. 234.39 λιβ ]ανωτὸν οἴνῳ [διεὶ ]ς ἡδίστῳ κλύζε [τὸ ο ]ὖς, ";dilute frankincense with very sweet wine and syringe the ear.";

For the comp. ἥδιον (as in Sirach 22:11) see BGU II. 372i. 15 (A.D. 154) (as amended Chrest. I. p. 33) ]να δὲ τοῦτο προθυμ [ότ ]ερο [ν ] κ ̣α ̣[ ] ἥδιο [ν π ]ο [ιή ]σω [σιν, and Priene 105.19 (c. B.C. 9) ἥδειον δ᾽ ἂν ἀνθρώποι [ς ] ἦν κοινὴν πᾶσιν ἡμέραν γενέθλιον ἀγαγ ̣[εῖν, ]ὰν προσγένηται αὐτοῖς καὶ ἰδία τις διὰ τὴν ἀρχὴν ἡδον [ —the important Calendar inscr. of the proconsul Paullus Fabius Maximus proposing to the Greeks in Asia to commence the year with the birthday of the Emperor Augustus (see Deissmann LAE, p. 370 f., Rouffiac Recherches, p. 67 ff.).
