For this verb, which is rare in Bibl. Greek and in the NT is confined to Matthew 5:25, we may cite PSI I. 64.5 (i/B.C. ?) where a woman comes under a solemn promise εὐνοεῖν, ";to be well-disposed"; towards her husband : cf. P Ryl II. 153.10 (A.D. 138–61) κα [ὶ ] αὐτὸς εὐνοήσας ἐμα [υτῷ κ ]αὶ τῷ πατρί μ ̣ο ̣υ ̣, P Oxy III. 494.9 (A.D. 156) εὐνοούσῃ μοι καὶ πᾶσαν πίστιν μοι ἐνδεικνυμένῃ, ";being well-disposed and showing entire faithfulness towards me"; (Edd.). So from the inscrr. OGIS 532.9 (B.C. 3) ὀμνύω Δία, Γῆν, Ἥλιον. . . εὐνοή [σειν Καί ]σαρι Σεβαστῶι, similarly Syll 364.20 (A.D. 37). There seems no good warrant for the transl. ";agree with"; in Mt l.c. AV, RV : see Abbott Joh. Voc. p. 207.
