French composer; born in Paris Nov. 1, 1851; studied at the Paris Conservatoire under Bazin and Marmontel. In 1875 he was awarded the Prix de Rome. Besides a great number of concert overtures, piano compositions,operettas, farces, and ballets, he has written two operas, "Adèle de Ponthière" (Aix-la-Chapelle, 1887) and "Rivoli" (Paris, 1896).
