Hungarian author; born at Tura Aug. 27, 1857. In his youth he studied Talmud, and for a short time attended the rabbinical seminary at Budapest, later writing for Hebrew periodicals under the pseudonym of "Ibri Anoki," and preparing a Hungarian translation of the haggadic portions of the treatise Sanhedrin. His most important literary activity, however, began with the Tisza-Eszlár affair, in which he took prominent part by contributing articles for the defense to the "Debreczeni Ellenör." In 1884 Szabolesi became editor of the "Jüdische Pester Zeitung," and two years later he assumed control of the Hungarian religious paper "Egyenlöség," published weekly at Budapest.
