American jurist; born in the Rhenish Palatinate, Germany, May 10, 1842. He was educated in Germany, but later emigrated to the United States, and in 1900 was appointed judge of the Supreme Court of Porto Rico, which position he resigned in 1904. In the same year he was appointed judge of the Federal Court of the Western District of Indian Territory.
