English authoress; born in London Aug. 1, 1823; died there July 7, 1899; daughter of Simeon K. Salaman and Alice Cowen. She grew up amid the intellectual and refined surroundings of a home which was the rendezvousof many distinguished people. On July 12, 1843, she was married to John Simon, LL.B. A woman of striking individuality, Lady Simon kept from her seventeenth year a diary of "Records and Reflections," from which she, in 1893, published a selection covering a period of fifty years, from 1840 to 1890. She wrote also a work on the Psalms, entitled "Beside the Still Waters."

Lady Simon's son Oswald John Simon (born in London in 1855) is a communal worker and author. Of his works may be mentioned "The World and the Cloister," a novel; and "Faith and Experience," a volume of essays and sermons.
