Posnanski, Adolf
The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia
Austrian rabbi; born at Lubraniec, near Warsaw, June 3, 1854; educated at the gymnasium, the university, and the rabbinical seminary at Breslau, where he worked under Heinrich Graetz and Manuel Joël, and at the Sorbonne in Paris, where he was reader to the Orientalist Joseph Derenbourg. While a student at Breslau he gave religious instruction in the secondary schools of that city, and officiated as rabbi at Reichenberg, Bohemia, from 1888 to 1891, when he was called to Pilsen. Posnanski is a member of the board of directors of the Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaft des Judenthums at Berlin.
His publications are as follows: "Ueber die Religionsphilosophischen Anschauungen des Flavius Josephus," Breslau, 1887; "Shiloh: Ein Beitrag zur Geschichte der Messiaslehre; Theil, Die Auslegung von Genesis c. 49, 5:10 im Altertum bis zu Ende des Mittelalters," Leipsic, 1904, containing also quotations from Hebrew and Arabic manuscripts together with rare prints.
