Major, Solomon Ibn

Turkish rabbi; flourished toward the end of the sixteenth century at Salonica, where he was head of the yeshibah. Many distinguished rabbis were Major's pupils, among them being Joseph Florentin, Abraham Falcon, and his own son Moses ibn Major. He was the author of a number of responsa, some of which are printed in the "Teshubot" of Ḥayyim Shabbethai (Salonica, 1651), some in the latter's "Torat Ḥayyim" (ib. 1713), and some in Judah Lerma's "Peleṭat Bet Yehudah" (Venice, 1647).
