Münsterburg, Hugo
The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia
American psychologist; born at Danzig, Prussia, June 1, 1863. After being trained at the gymnasium of his native city he studied philosophy at Leipsic (Ph.D. 1885) and medicine at Heidelberg (M.D. 1887). Devoting himself to psychological studies, he became assistant professor in psychology at the University of Freiburg in 1891, and the next year was elected professor of psychology at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. In 1898 he was president of the Psychological Association of America, and in 1902 was selected to accompany Prince Henry of Prussia over much of his tour in the United States. Münsterburg has contributed many papers on psychological subjects to specialist journals, and has published: "Psychology and Life" (Boston, 1899); "Grundzüge der Psychologie" (vol. , Leipsic, 1900); "American Traits" (Boston, 1902); "Die Amerikaner" (2 vols., Berlin, 1904; translated into English, New York, 1904).
