German authoress; born Feb. 3, 1849, at Berlin; a descendant of a German Christian family. She was married first to Dr. Max Remy (in her writings she still signs herself "Nahida Remy"), after whose death she became a convert to Judaism and married Prof. Moritz Lazarus (1895).

Nahida Lazarus has contributed many essays and novels, treating of history, art, and theatrical criticism, sociology, etc., to the feuilletons of the "Vossische Zeitung," "Monatszeitung," "Westermann's Monatshefte," etc. She is also the authoress of: "Die Rechnung ohne Wirth," drama, 1870; "Wo die Orangen Blühen," story, 1872; "Constanze," drama, 1879; "Die Grafen Eckardstein," drama, 1880; "Schicksalswege," 1880; "Domenico," and "Nationale Gegensätze," drama, 1884; "Sicilianische Novellen," 1885; "Liebeszauber," drama, 1887; "Geheime Gewalten," 1890; "Das Jüdische Weib," 1892; "Das Gebet in Bibel und Talmud," 1892; "Kulturstudien über das Judentum," 1893; "Humanität im Judentum," 1894; "Ich Suchte Dich," an autobiography, 1898; etc. Since the death of her husband she has prepared a volume of his "Lebenserinnerungen."
