French rabbi; born in 1829 at Lauterbourg, Alsace; died at Bordeaux Nov. 29, 1886. He studied first under Solomon Ulmann, and then at the Rabbinical School at Metz, which he left in 1853 to accept the rabbinate of Lunéville. In 1864 he was called as chief rabbi to Bordeaux, where he remained until his death. Besides a pamphlet, "Renan et la Synagogue," Lévy wrote "Moïse, Jésus, Mahomet," which work was published posthumously.
