French rabbi; born at Marmoutier, Alsace, Jan. 28, 1848. Educated at the lyceum at Strasburg and the seminary at Paris, he became rabbi of Verdun in 1876, which position he held until 1892; in that year he became chief rabbi of Bayonne.

Lévy has been a contributor to the "Revue des Etudes Juives" and is the author of "La Monarchie chez les Juifs en Palestine," Paris, 1885. In collaboration with M. Bloch he has written also "Histoire de la Littérature Juive Depuis l'Origine Jusqu'à Nos Jours."
