Danish violoncellist and composer; born Jan. 12, 1847, at Copenhagen. He first studied with F. Rauch, and later with Friedrich Neruda and Friedrich Grützmacher in Dresden. From 1866 to 1871 he lived in Germany, where he successively played in the orchestras at Meiningen and Cassel. He also appeared as a soloist and in chamber-music performances. On his return to Denmark in 1871 he became a member of the royal orchestra at Copenhagen, and since 1887 he has been its leader.

Bendix has published a book of children's songs, of which he composed both text and music. In 1884 a one-act comedy of his was performed at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen. Another play, entitled "En Hustru," was published by him under the pseudonym "Carston Holst."
