German preacher; brother of Bernhard Frankfurter; born at Oberdorf Feb. 13, 1810; died April 13, 1866; studied at the universities of Heidelberg and Tübingen, graduating (Ph.D.) in 1833. For a time acting rabbi at Lehrensteinfels, he was called as rabbi to Braunsbach in Württemberg, and in 1840 to Hamburg as preacher of the temple. He was also very active in educational matters. In 1848 his fellow citizens elected him to the Hamburg Parliament ("Constituante"). Frankfurter belonged to the extreme (religious) Reform party.
