German rabbi; born in Zülz, Prussian Silesia, April 2, 1800; died in Beuthen June 7, 1853. From 1829 until his death he officiated as rabbi in Beuthen, achieving distinction as a preacher, Talmudist, and Hebraist. In the two treatises "Rücksprache mit Allen Gläubigen des Rabbinischen Judenthums, etc." (written in conjunction with his brother, David Deutsch), Breslau, 1843, and "Zur Würdigung der Braunschweiger Rabbinerversammlung," ib. 1845, he vigorously opposed the Reform movement. After his death his two brothers, Abraham, rabbi of Gleiwitz, and David, rabbi of Sohrau, published "Proben aus dem Literarischen Nachlasse des Israel Deutsch," Gleiwitz, 1855.
