Cruceanu, Stefan
The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia
Rumanian author; born at Jassy April 25, 1868. On receiving his bachelor's degree in 1889 he entered the University of Jassy as a student of philosophy, but at the endof a year he went to Paris to study medicine. In April, 1885, he published his first work, a socialistic story, in the "Drepturile Omului" (Rights of Man). He became a frequent contributor to different political papers, including the "Natiunea," "Drapelul," "Perdaful," "Fulgerul," "Tunul," and "Propashirea." In 1891 he published his first poem, "Bataile din Urma" (The Last Heart-Beat), in the "Revista Noua" of Bucharest. He is a contributor to the most prominent journals of Rumania, such as the "Convorbiri Literare," "Radicalul," "Evenimentul," "Noutatea," "Adeverul." "Literatura et Arta Romana," and the "Noua Revista Romana." In 1898 he published most of his poems in one volume under the title "Lacrime."
