Town in the domain of Judah (Joshua 15:42), but which was in the actual possession of Simeon (Joshua 19:7; 1 Chronicles 4:32). Priests also had residence in Ashan (1 Chronicles 6:44); though in the corresponding passage of Joshua 21:16, "Ain" (which may simply be a corruption of "Ashan") is given instead. Chor-ashan (or, rather, Bor-ashan) of I. Sam. 30:30 is perhaps the same as Ashan.
