Preacher at Slutzk, government of Minsk, Russia; later at Boskowitz, Moravia; died before 1659. He was the author of the following works: (1) "'Amudeah Shib'ah" (Her Columns Are Seven), containing homilies on the Bible; divided into seven parts, each of which bears the title of a Biblical expression connected with the name of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Aaron, David, or Solomon (Lublin, 1666). This work was published by the order of the Council of the Four Lands and of the Lithuanian Rabbinical Assembly, held at Lublin in 1666. (2) "Ḳorban Shabbat" (Sacrifice of Sabbath), on some ritual laws and religious customs concerning Sabbath; divided into thirty-nine chapters (Dyhernfurth, 1691). (3) "Pelaḥ ha Rimmon" (The Piece of the Pomegranate), containing twenty explanations of the forty-nine which had been written by Bezalel on a difficult Midrashic passage (Amsterdam, 1659). (4) "Ḥabaẓelet ha-Sharon" (Rose of Sharon), commentary on Psalm , mentioned in the introduction to the preceding work. (5) "Zayit Ra'anan" (Green Olive-Tree), homilies on the Pentateuch. (6) "'Emeḳ ha-Baka" (Vale of Tears), commentary on Lamentations. The last two works are still extant in manuscript.
