One of the most prominent of Oriental casuists; son of Moses Nuñez Belmonte; lived in Smyrna at the end of the eighteenth century, and at the beginning of the nineteenth. He published a commentary upon the first and second parts of Maimonides' Mishnah Torah under the title "Sha'ar ha-Melek" (The King's Gate), Salonica, 1771; 2d ed., with notes by Baruch ben Jonah Jeiteles, Brünn, 1801-3; 3d ed., with notes by Joseph Saul Nathanson, Lemberg, 1859 (the work is one of the most important productions of Oriental casuistry, and was introduced into Germany and Poland by Jeiteles in the second edition); "Derek ha-Sha'ar" (The Gateway), an oration contained in Raphael (Isaac) Maggio's "Darke ha-Yam," Salonica, 1813.
