Anisimov, Ilia Sharbatovich
The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

Russian civil engineer; born in Daghestan, 1853; received his first education in the house of his father, Dr. Sharbat ben Nisim, rabbi and president of the Daghestan community. He was graduated from the University of Moscow, and held the position of assistant manager of the Rothschild Naphtha Company in the Caucasus. He was the author of two Hebrew pamphlets on the Jewish community of Daghestan which were published in Jerusalem in 1894. In 1888 the Ethnographical Branch of the Moscow Society ofNatural Science published his work: "Kavkazskie Yevrei," a study of the life, customs, and history of the Jews inhabiting the region of the Caucasus.
