Adhan, Solomon ben Masud

Translator and author, who lived in the first half of the eighteenth century. He went from Tafilet, Morocco, to Amsterdam so as to obtain the necessary means for the ransom of his family and of his synagogue from the hands of the Moors. He published a translation of Solomon Sasportas' "Zeker Rab" under the title "Memoria de los 613 Preceptos" (An Account of the 613 Precepts), Amsterdam, 1727; also "Bi-Neot Deshe" (In Green Pastures), containing ritualistic and ethical exhortations, as well as legends of Moses and Aaron (Amsterdam, 1735; 2d ed., in Russia, 1809).
