A city and the county-seat of York county, Nebraska, U.S.A., about 4 6 m. W. by N. of Lincoln. Pop. (1900) 5132; (1910) 62 3 5. It is served by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy and Chicago & North-Western railways. It is the seat of the School of the Holy Family and of York College (founded in 18go, co-educational). The city is situated in a farming and stockraising region, and among its manufactures are foundry products, bricks and flour. York was settled in 1864, was laid out in 1869, was incorporated as a town in 1875 and was chartered as a city in 1877.
