Pope for thirty or forty days in 827, in succession to Eugenius II. (824-27). He was a Roman by birth, and, according to the Liber Pontificalis, was first made a deacon by Paschal I. (817-24). Nothing further is known of his history. His successor was Gregory IV. (827-44).
