"RUTLAND BARRINGTON [GEORGE RUTLAND FLEET] (1853), English actor, was born at Penge, Kent, Jan. 15 1853, and was educated at Merchant Taylors' school. He appeared first at the Olympic theatre, London, in 1874. Three years later he joined D'Oyley Carte's company at the Opera Comique and appeared in Gilbert and Sullivan's opera The Sorcerer. From that time onwards he was identified with the fortunes of the long series of these operas, which ran continuously from 1877 to 1889 and were revived at frequent intervals. In 1908 and 1911 he published two volumes of Recollections.
