A village and the county-seat of Chenango county, New York, U.S.A., on the Chenango river, 42 m. N.E. of Binghamton. Pop. (1910 census), 7422. It is served by the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western and the New York, Ontario & Western railways. The village has three parks, two libraries - the Guernsey Memorial Library and the D. L. Follett Memorial Law Library - and the Chenango Valley Home for Aged Women. Norwich is in a dairying and farming region, where hops especially are grown; and there are bluestone quarries in the vicinity. There are a variety of manufactures, and the New York, Ontario & Western has repair shops and division headquarters here. The first settlement was made in 1792, and the village was incorporated in 1857.
