"HERMANN KUSMANEK VOl BURGNEUSTATTEN (1860-), Austro-Hurgarian general, was born at Hermannstadt. He was in commsnd of the fortress of Przemsyl when it was attacked in the fist Russian cam p aign of the World War. It was only after .a six months' investment and the repulse of powerful Russiai onslaughts, and when the food supply was completely exhausted, that he surrendered on March 22 1915. Kusmanek and the garrison becane prisoners of war. As a member of the War Archives Deportment he cooperated in the compilation of the History of the Mr of the Austrian Succession, and together ` sith Maj. von Hoen vrote a manual on the sani tary service.
