Founded in 1518 as the diocese of Baracoa, which covered all of Cuba, and was a suffragen of the archdiocese of Seville, Spain. On April 28, 1522 the name was changed to the diocese of Santiago de Cuba. Elevated to an archdiocese on November 24, 1803. Suffragen dioceses include
- Guantánamo-Baracoa
- HolguÃn
- Santisimo Salvador de Bayamo y Manzanillo
