Widow; born Rome, Italy, 347; died Bethlehem, 404. The chief source of her life is the cor- respondence of Saint Jerome, who influenced her to follow the monastic life. After a pilgrimage to Egypt, she settled at Bethlehem with Saint Jerome and her daughter, Eustochium, and founded two monasteries.
