Born Piedmont, Italy, 1694; died Rome, Italy, 1775. Confessor, founder of the Congregation of Discalced Clerks of the Most Holy Cross and Passion (Passionists). Ordained in 1727 by Pope Benedict XIII, having a singular devotion to the Passion of Our Lord, he established the Congregation of the Passion, and founded the first house at Mount Argentaro, 1747. Canonized, 1867. Relics in Sans Giovanni e Paolo. Feast, Roman Calendar, April 28,.
